Saidona is a village of Messinian Mani, 54 kilometeres from Kalamata, 13 kilometeres from Stoupa and is built amphitheatrically at the foot of the Taygetos, at an altitude of about 600 meters on the southwest side of Mount Sotiritsa. Administratively it belongs to the municipality of Lefktro. To the north of this traditional settlement and within 800 metres of its centre, there is an area known as 'Kastrichseika'. There, a plot of land of 4,190.34 square metres, even and buildable, is for sale, on which the future owner will be able to build a house with a maximum metric area of 200 square metres. The maximum height of a future building can be 7,5 metres + 1,5 metres plus 1,5 metres in case of roof construction. The first inhabitants of Saidona are estimated to have settled in the area after the occupation of Greece by the Turks. This is evidenced by ruins of houses and, above all, by the existence of two monasteries. The village got its name, according to the prevailing view, from the beauty of the landscape and from the existence of many nightingales (Aydona-San Aydona-Saidona). The Saidonites, as tradition says and as it appears from written texts, were progressive people who fought for the general interest and participated in all the struggles of the Greek nation. Those who passed by this place, praised the beauty of the village in the environment composed of huge oak trees and running waters, with the cobbled narrow streets and the old traditional stone houses overlooking the sea.
