The District of Riglia consists of three settlements. Kato Riglia, Izina (Elaiochorio) and Ano Riglia. The village can be found by heading from Stoupa towards Agios Nikolaos Mani after 4km on the left of the road to Areopolis. The three settlements are built in a strip between two torrents that start from the mountain of Milea and end at Pantazi beach. Ano Riglia, which is an example of a mountain village of Messinian Mani, consists of cobbled streets and many stone-built houses. Olive and cypress trees make up the natural decor of the village. The view of the sea from the village soothes the visitor. A tour of the village takes us back to other times. The area was inhabited around 1800 by the families of Gennimataeon, Christes and Kybeleon and the village took its present form after the creation of the church of Panagia by a monk who came from Mount Athos. Remarkable post-Byzantine churches can be found in the settlements. In Ano Riglia, the church of Panagia and Agios Georgios with its magnificent bell tower and masterpiece frescoes. In Kato Riglia, the churches of the Transfiguration (1854) and the church of the Apostles Peter and Paul. In Kato Riglia there is also a remarkable stone-built arched well, a sample of the daily life of the inhabitants in earlier times. Near the village there is also the church of Agia Paraskevi, built on a steep slope in a cave with a small bell tower, offering the visitor a spectacular view.
