The building is located in a prominent position, on the corner of TOSITSA and GARBOLA streets. The view on the Garbola is organized in vertical zones with the bay windows and exterior columns symmetrically on either side of the entrance. In the view of Tositsa, the central portico is visible with the vertical supports and portico columns and openings on either side. Of interest is the accentuation of the crowning on the 4th floor with an embossed horizontal band with vertical glyphs. A characteristic element of the facades are the balconies with geometric supports (rectangular furousia) with simple metal railings. Also the relief aprons of the windows in the bay windows with vertical glyphs and the relief elements below the small openings in the corners of the bay windows.
The building maintains the structure of the interior spaces, the wooden frames, the imposing wooden front doors, decorative tiles on the floors, plaster decorations, the staircase, the entrance area, etc.
Sofoklis Garbolas died in Thessaloniki in 1906 and was a descendant of a family of scholars and publishers. He was a printer and publisher of the first Greek newspaper entitled Ermis, in 1875, which was later renamed Pharos tis Makedonia.
Michail Tositsas (or Tositzas or Dositzas) was born in 1787 in Metsovo and died in 1856 in Athens. In 1820 he went to Alexandria, Egypt, where he acquired a considerable fortune. During the Revolution of 1821, he purchased the freedom of many slaves. The Tositsa family comes from Metsovo and several of its members have been distinguished as national benefactors.
