Neohori belongs to the Municipality of West Mani, together with the settlement of Lefktro and the coastal village of Stoupa. It is located three kilometres from the crossroad of the provincial road Kalamata - Areopolis at the level on Stupa and is amphitheatrically built on a hill at an altitude of 200 metres. It is one of the new settlements of Mani that was created at the end of the 17th century (around 1680) when the Venetian administration of the region wanted to colonize the area by transferring inhabitants from southern villages to fill the population gap. They settled and built houses from materials taken from the demolished citadel of the castle of Lefktro. The ancient name of the area was Lefktra, named after the son of Periris, Lefkippo.
