HISTORIC MANOR TO THE SOUTHERN PART OF CORFU ISLAND The Manor is the heart of the Estate, which extends over 70 acres of olive groves and forest including the Grava olive grove with its' 400 years old trees. The estate has belonged to the family for centuries and was used as an olive oil, wine and harvest centre for the region. The house was built in stages over many centuries, and was part of an enormous estate that was spread through Southern Corfu from the 16th cent. onwards. This was one of many houses kept by the family in order to control their land which produced olive oil, wine and corn. At its peak, in the mid-19th century, the estate stretched for miles, had 3 watermills,stables, an oil-pressers' and more than 4000 olive trees. There is a Beautiful fully refurbished apartment inside the historic Manor. Consisting of two air-conditioned bedrooms (one of them en suite) and a kitchen/living room, the apartment can comfortably accommodate a family of 4. The apartment has just been fully refurbished, with loving respect to the origins of the house.The kitchen is fully equipped to the highest standard. The estate produces the extra virgin olive oil produced by the ownership. All buildings can be used as residences or change into a hotel use. Roumanades is a tiny village, relatively new, in the southern part of Corfu, built on a verdant, lowland area. In Roumanades there is an exceptional, old mansionwhich belongs to an old family. This family owned many acres in southern Corfu in the past. The mansion is situated just before the village, on a hill. From there and next to the church of Agios Ioannis, begins a path towards the mountain where, you can find the old village of Roumanades. Today, the old Roumanades is an abandoned village but, it has great history. The first written sources which refer it date back to 1502. The name of the village came from the name of the first settlers, Romanos, a family of Byzantine descent. The plague, which ravaged the region in 1815-1816, struck Roumanades more than the rest of the villages in southern Corfu.
